Saphly is a space built for and by the sapphic community. These Community Guidelines ("Guidelines") set out how we expect everyone to behave when interacting with other people through our website, publishing services, and community platforms (collectively, the "Services"), whether through comments, reviews, messages, or any other community feature.

By using our Services, you agree to follow these Guidelines, as well as our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you should not interact with content or other users through the Services.

Saphly is a platform built around sapphic identity and community. Everyone here—readers, authors, and visitors—deserves to feel safe and respected.

  • Treat others with basic respect, even in disagreement.
  • Do not use slurs, dehumanizing language, or attacks targeting someone's identity, including gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or nationality.
  • Recognize that the sapphic community is diverse. Bi, pan, lesbian, trans, non-binary, and queer people are all welcome here. Gatekeeping or exclusion based on identity is not.

2.1. General harassment

Harassment of any kind is not tolerated. This includes:

  • Repeated unwanted contact, messages, or comments directed at a specific person.
  • Threats, intimidation, or content designed to make someone fear for their safety.
  • Coordinated pile-ons, review-bombing, or campaigns targeting an author or reader.
  • Outing someone's real identity, location, or personal information without consent.
  • Sending or sharing explicit or sexual content to someone who has not consented to receiving it.
  • Using Saphly's community features to organize, coordinate, or initiate harassment of any person, regardless of whether the harassment ultimately takes place on or off the platform.

2.2. Minor safety

Adults may not use Saphly's community features—including comments, reviews, or any messaging functionality—to solicit, groom, or inappropriately contact a minor. Any such conduct will result in immediate account suspension and referral to law enforcement without prior notice.

Comments and reviews are core to how readers engage with books and authors on Saphly. Critique and honest feedback are welcome. Abuse is not.

3.1. What's welcome

  • Honest, specific, constructive feedback about the work.
  • Sharing what you enjoyed or what didn't land for you as a reader.
  • Discussion of themes, characters, and story with other readers.

3.2. What's not allowed

  • Personal attacks on the author rather than feedback about the work.
  • Leaving multiple negative reviews to artificially harm a work's rating or visibility.
  • Authors leaving negative reviews or ratings on other works in retaliation for criticism received on their own work.
  • Spam comments, promotional links, or off-topic self-promotion.
  • Reviews that reveal major spoilers without warning. This may result in removal of the review.
  • Coordinated fake positive reviews, including reviewing your own work from alternate accounts.
  • AI-generated reviews or comments submitted in bulk or designed to simulate authentic engagement.

Respecting the privacy of others is non-negotiable. Do not share, post, or threaten to share:

  • Real names, addresses, phone numbers, or contact details.
  • Private communications (messages, emails) without the other person's consent.
  • Personal information about someone's gender identity, sexuality, or health without consent, including outing.
  • Information gathered to facilitate harm against another person.

Sharing someone's private information to intimidate, silence, or harm them will result in immediate account suspension and referral to law enforcement where applicable.

Do not impersonate other users, authors, or Saphly staff. This includes:

  • Creating accounts with usernames or profile images designed to mimic someone else.
  • Claiming to be a Saphly team member or moderator when you are not.
  • Using misleading account information to deceive other users.

Operating multiple accounts to circumvent bans or manipulate platform systems (ratings, reviews, engagement) is also prohibited.

Publishing written content falsely attributed to another author is also prohibited. See our Terms of Service for full rules governing impersonation through published works.

Community spaces on Saphly are for genuine interaction, not advertising. The following are not permitted:

  • Posting promotional links or advertisements in comments or reviews.
  • Repetitive, copy-pasted, or mass-sent messages promoting your own or others' work.
  • Unsolicited direct messages promoting products, services, or external platforms.
  • Content designed solely to drive traffic away from Saphly.
  • AI-generated messages, comments, or promotional content submitted in bulk or used to simulate authentic community engagement.

Sharing your own work in relevant, designated spaces (such as author profiles or designated community threads) is always welcome.

For minor or first-time violations, we will typically issue a warning before taking further action. Repeated violations, serious misconduct, or cases where immediate action is necessary to protect users may result in:

  • Removal of the offending comment, review, or content.
  • A warning issued to your account.
  • Temporary account suspension.
  • Permanent account suspension for serious or repeated violations.

Severe violations, including threats, doxxing, or child safety concerns, may be escalated to law enforcement without prior notice.

If you believe enforcement action was taken in error, contact us via the Contact page.

If someone is violating these Guidelines, please report it through our platform or contact us via the Contact page. Reports are reviewed promptly. For urgent safety concerns, you can also reach us on our Discord server.

We may update these Guidelines periodically, indicating any changes through the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of our Services after changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Guidelines. Where changes affect what is permitted, we will not take enforcement action against content published in good faith prior to those changes without first notifying the author and providing a reasonable opportunity to comply.

These Guidelines are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action or dispute arising from these Guidelines will be resolved in accordance with these laws and regulations.

If you have any questions about these Guidelines or need assistance, please contact us via the appropriate email address or form on the Contact page. For real-time assistance or community support, you can also reach us on our Discord server.
